Examining Turkish MoNE 2013 Preschool Education Program in terms of Health Concept

Abstract

Examining the place of health concept in Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE) 2013 Preschool Education Program was aimed in this study. Data which was gathered via document analysis were used. An evaluation form was constituted by the researchers. Preschool Education Program was examined in terms of components of optimal health; physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social health. Also, the program was approached by dividing into four parts; introduction, acquisitions, learning process, and evaluation. For data analysis, content analysis was used. According to the results, it could be indicated that introduction, acquisitions, and learning process parts included physical health references, in most cases. The reason why physical health was referred in the most parts of the program was about relationship between physical health and children’s active participation. After physical health, emotional health was referred, frequently. In the evaluation part, health was referred, at the minimum level. To conclude, health concept was appeared in Preschool Education Program with references to physical and emotional health. It is thought that it could pose an obstacle for approaching health concept in preschool education, effectively.
